Shocking Fee Increase For Certain H-1B and L-1 Petitions

On August 13, 2010, President Obama signed into law Public Law 111-230, which increases the filing fee for certain H-1B and L-1 petitions.  The law requires submission of additional fee by employers with 50 or more employees with more than 50% of such workforce in H-1B and/or L-1 visa status.  An additional fee (in addition to the current filing fee) of $2,000.00 for H-1B or $2,250.00 for L-1 petitions that are postmarked on or after August 14, 2010 is to be included with the petition filings.  The law will be in effect through September 30, 2014.  The additional fee is required to be paid only for new H-1B or L-1 petition filings or change of employer H-1B petition filings.
